Openreach - Connecting 28,000 engineers
The challenge
Openreach needed to equip thousands of engineers across the UK to deliver complex broadband installations while working remotely, often in challenging conditions. Their existing devices and tools made it difficult to coordinate schedules, manage lone workers, and maintain consistent service quality at scale.
The solution
Working with Openreach, we rolled out 16,000 iPhones on the EE 4G and 5G network, giving engineers robust, always-on mobile access. Devices came preloaded with Microsoft 365, FaceTime for mentoring, and the MyJobs scheduling app to automate route planning. Face ID authentication and Apple Financial Services financing simplified device management, while built-in Teams Phone integration enabled seamless communication.
The result
Openreach engineers gained faster access to essential information, completing 1,500 extra jobs per month. Job delays and repeat visits were reduced, collaboration between field and office teams improved, and morale increased thanks to simplified communication and reliable, secure technology.
Gas engineer - Rapid incident response with Peoplesafe
The challenge
Gas engineers working alone in customers’ homes face unpredictable situations, from late appointments to safety threats. One engineer encountered an aggressive customer whose behaviour escalated quickly, placing their safety at risk.
The solution
Using the Peoplesafe app, the engineer discreetly activated an SOS alert. The Alarm Receiving Centre immediately detected the incident, escalated the call to the police, and notified the company’s management team. Peoplesafe’s integration with EE’s mobile network ensured a reliable connection and rapid response.
The result
Police arrived within five minutes, and the engineer was confirmed safe. The incident demonstrated the speed, reliability and reassurance of the Peoplesafe system, helping the employer strengthen its lone-worker safety policies and giving engineers renewed confidence in the field.
